I am an animal lover. I’ve always been this way. I remember finding

lost dogs

around the neighborhood when I was a kid and bringing them home. My parents always made me put signs up and the owners inevitably came calling for their pets.

Today, we have two rescue dogs Olive and Benny and if I had the space, I’d have a whole pack of pups. I’m so grateful for the organizations that take animals in and give them a second chance. Since I can’t take all the homeless dogs, I like to help out in other ways. We had the opportunity to drive a couple of dogs to an adoption event today. Blue Smitty and Roy were our sweet furry passengers and I’m still trying to talk Joshua into fostering Roy. I’m probably not going to win that one.

When we got home from chauffeuring mutts around , it was time to start getting ready for our friend’s post Halloween bash. The theme of the fete is “twisted fairy tales” and Joshua and I are both dressed as evil fairies. The gingerbread man in the photo above is actually a veggie meatloaf made from wild mushrooms and walnuts. I also baked a gingerbread crumb cake.

Since our day was so packed, I’m blogging from the car on our way to the party. I couldn’t stomach missing my second day so here it is, a major lesson in the perfect being the enemy of progress, my second post for #NaBloPoMo.

What are you grateful for today?

Have a delightful time! I'm grateful for hard conversations that lead to fruitful results, brunch (especially hollandaise sauce), good coffee, and living in the age of electronics. Because you being able to blog on the go means that I got to see that veggie meatloaf "gingerbread" man and laugh out loud, and for that I'm grateful.

I'm grateful for you, darling Sabrina. Also grateful for FALL. Changing leaves, pulling sweaters out from storage, the anticipation of the holidays, my new job.
