44 Vegan Recipes for Food Lovers

February 21, 2012 by Sabrina Modelle

44 Vegan Recipes for Food Lovers

One year ago, I began what was supposed to be a 28 day vegan cleanse.  A day or two in, my husband jumped in with both feet. For this cleanse, Joshua and I cut out all meat, dairy, gluten, refined sugar, alcohol, and caffeine. In total, we stayed off of meat and dairy for two and a half months.

The impact of those 70 days has been much deeper and longer lasting that we could have ever imagined. As we added the meat and dairy back into our diets, it was in smaller portions and much less frequently.  My love for fresh fruits and veggies is well-documented, but I came to love grains, nuts, and seeds like never before as well- and don’t even get me started on nutritional yeast!

Whether you are vegan or not, the choice to incorporate more plant-based meals is a healthy one and (as evidenced by this list) incredibly tasty. Preparing vegan meals also made me a better cook.

Here is a list of 44 fabulous vegan recipes- a few of my favorite vegan recipes from this site, a few I’ve written for other sites, but mostly just some drool-worthy food you probably need in your life.

Thank you for including my Sriracha Broccoli in this roundup! Also, my husband and I do Orthodox Lent every year, which essentially means we're vegans for the next 6 weeks. This recipe roundup is perfect! Thank you.

There's a lot of interesting recipes I'd like to try in that post,

My very favorite vegan ice cream recipe can be found at http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Coco… (I use more coconut milk instead of the half and half).

    Love your blog!

Great looking recipes! Why did you decide to go back to eating meat and dairy? How did your body react?

I feel 100% amazing. I went back to eating meat and dairy due to some health difficulties. I suffer from migraines (or I did) and I cannot eat many legumes or any soy without triggering them. When I say migraines, I mean I was on preventative medication and that merely made them less. I would at times have migraines that lasted more than 3 weeks and had to go to hospital for morphine injections. Now, a couple of years later, I know that my migraines were actually most triggered by gluten and I was trying to get a lot of my protein from whole grains. Today, I eat a gluten free, grain free, sugar free diet rich in vegetables and sustainably farmed, humanely raised meats and eggs. I am happy to say that I am free of migraines. I\’ve been off all medication since January of this year.

I hate to be "that guy", but honey is not vegan. . . .

      Hi SLF
I do know many vegans who eat honey and I actually have a vegan friend who keeps bees. Honey is also an easy substitution for other liquid sweeteners. It's up to the individual to choose whether or not they eat honey (or anything else for that matter) but your comment has been taken into consideration.
      Thank you.
